About ubuntu4students

This blog is meant to document my experience in using Ubuntu. I recently transitioned to Ubuntu from Windows XP as of March 5, 2009. I hope to document interesting finds and tips that helped me make the transition easier and share some frustrations and joys to help graduate students decide whether they should make the change. My journey has been long and has wasted many an hour that I should have spent grading or running statistics.  Hopefully I can help some of you avoid that. Fortunately the time and frustration has paid off in the end.  A note for the experts and beginners, I usually try to look for a way that avoids technical expert knowlege.  I try to stick to the visual interface as much as possible, but understand that this is now always possible.  I appreciate all contributions by and welcome any and all advice.

FYI: I am using a DELL XPS M140 running ubunti 8.10 with 3 gigs of ram.
